about me

Clara Sánchez

I started playing the cello at the age of 8 in Cartagena (Murcia, Spain) with Elena María García. During this pivotal time there were two teachers who were essencial in my development as a cellist: Brian Webber and Laura Lee. After graduating at the age of 17, I moved to Seville to pursue my Bachelor's degree under the guidance of Israel Fausto Martínez Melero at the CSM Manuel Castillo. In 2022, I began my Master's degree in Classical Cello with Karlien Bartels, which I completed in June 2024. I am deeply grateful to all these teachers who have supported me so much throughout these years.

During my apprenticeship I have attended masterclasses from Monique Bartels, María de Macedo, Heidi Litschauer, Jaap Ter Linden, Marc Coppey, Josep Bassal, Asier Polo, María Casado, Ángel Luis Quintana, Iagoba Fanlo among others. In chamber music, I have received lessons from Dudok Quartet and in orchestral workshops I have worked with Manuel Hernández Silva, Hiro Kurosaki and John Axelrod.

I not only enjoy playing the cello solo, but also performing in chamber music groups. I am currently part of Sabina Duo with the pianist Ana Marco and Noia Trio with Almudena Bujanda (violin) and Ana Marco (piano). With this trio we won the Publiekprijs in “The Best Of” chamber music competition held by ArtEZ University of the Arts.

Besides, I have played in several orchestras such as Filharmonie Noord, Fundación Barenboim-Said, Orquesta Joven de Andalucía, Joven Orquesta Barroca de Andalucía, Orquesta Sinfónica de Cartagena and Orquesta Sinfónica de Torrevieja. In addition, I collaborated as part of my final degree project in Seville with the 'Fundación Cristina Heeren', specialized in flamenco. This has not been my only project related to flamenco, because this summer, August 2024, I recorded a song together with other musicians for the new album of guitarist Jose Antonio Aarnoutse.

I currently play a Francisco Ruggieri model cello by Maximiliano Pecollo, built in Cremona in 2022.
